I was thinking about this recently so I decided to write it down. But now I've also decided to share it because I do think it'd be quite cool. Man, I should read Snow Crash again sometime soon fr
Sometimes I wish that the metaverse had caught on. Cause chatting to my friends over text is kinda lame. I wanna see them. Their avatars being tiny little circles at the bottom of the screen? Boring! Make them bigger!
Also, the environment of chat apps like Matrix and Discord isn't great. Just a grey background? Eugh. I know that for discord you can download mods (technically against their terms of service, but fuck them for letting kids get groomed and making adults fork over government ids so that it can continue). Will say that I'm a huge fan of the nitro cosmetic benefits, and the quests where you can *choose* what ads you watch, if any. But still fuck them.
Personally, I'd much prefer if conversations take place as floating avatars in a virtual room because I'd love a virtual space that I can decorate without any commitment to a budget or having to go through the labor of putting up shelves and stuff.
You know what else would be cool? Personalised customisation. Like, if you could customise a server around what you like about it, rather than having it decided for you by the admins and moderators.
But I think that DMs should be user controlled. Idk, I might change my mind, but I think if you're speaking to a person, it would be nice to see them in an environment that they've curated y'know. Like a myspace page back in the day. I haven't ever heard of someone complaining about that.
I can understand wanting to be in your own space though, rather than always being in another persons after spending a whole lot of time customising it, so maybe you could do something like in that recent ULTRAKILL update with the room that's half red and half white.
Another thought that I had was if you could have virtual screens and stuff to engage with YT and stuff in those spaces, but you could just do that in your real room, and it's important to have a degree of separation somewhere. Could still be fun though.
